The Superfly Boxing Podcast: Episode 3 - Russ Anber Interview
Struggling to keep entertained during lockdown? Fear not, for episode 3 of The Superfly Boxing Podcast has landed!
And what a treat we have in store for you today, as the Fight Site’s Taylor Higgins is joined by Russ Anber; founder of Rival Boxing Apparel, a coaching veteran of over 40 years experience and a highly-skilled cornerman/cutman to boot. Fair to say he’s a student of the sport, then!
Touching across a range of topics, from his beginnings in boxing to his rise training the likes of amateur standouts Otis and Howard Grant, Russ Anber offers a fascinating insight into world of boxing from a man who knows the game like few others. He also dives into his own coaching philosophy, the key aspects of what makes a successful coach, as well as the unique achievement of building a fighter from the ground up - something that very few coaches can claim to have done. And of course, Taylor and Russ both talk about the latter’s recent work with Ukrainian standouts Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk, and how their approach differs from every other fighter in order to stay ahead of the competition.
This interview was an absolute pleasure to record, and a big thanks to Russ for taking the time to chat to me! It speaks volumes about his love for the sport that, 40 years later, there’s still the same burning passion in his voice when he talks about boxing.
